This book is an expanded version of Richard Meryman's interview with Louis Armstrong for the April 15, 1966 edition of "Life" magazine. Meryman edited out all of his questions so the book reads solely from Armstrong's perspective. Armstrong discusses growing up in New Orleans, his early record collection, Bix Beiderbecke, King Oliver. Fletcher Henderson, Joe Glaser and much more. Armstrong also philosophizes about being too famous, playing for the audience and being there "in the cause of happiness."
