Scope: Louis and Lucille at home with Louis Panassie and his wife, Claudine; Enrico Tomasso's family band tape made for Louis; Joe Glaser funeral report. Originally cataloged in "Tape Catalog #2, Part 1" (see Manuscripts, 1987.2.23). Contents (as on compact disc reference copy): Disc 1, Track 1: Recording of the sound recording "Relax and Enjoy the Music of Alfred Eisenstein" (Vienna Broadcasting Orchestra, conducted by Ladislaus Varady). Track 2: Louis, Lucille, Louis Panassie and his wife, Claudine test Louis’ new tape recorders which were installed by Lucille while Louis was in Beth Israel Hospital; Track 3: Lucille describes Louis’ tape collection and the stereo tape recording system; Track 4: Louis plays a tape of his London concert (BBC recording, 1968); ”When it’s sleepy time down south”; Track 5: Louis Panassie talks to Louis and Lucille about an interview he wants to do for a film he is working on; Track 6: Panassie asks about New Orleans, showboats, Clark Terry; he asks about Chicago and New York; his wife asks Louis about dancing; Track 7: Panassie asks Louis about his favorite songs and stories concerning the songs; Louis mentions ”My Brazilian Beauty” (Louis sings a bit a cappella) and talks about how Louis ”must do this film” for his father; Track 8: Panassie talks about how glad he is to see Lucille, and asks about Louis’ driving; Lucille says Louis hasn’t driven for twenty years; she mentions insurance and talks about cars; Track 9: Louis tells a story about his first car (a Plymouth) that he sent to New Orleans for his sister, and how her husband was arrested every time he drove it; Louis says Panassie must visit his sister in New Orleans; Panassie asks about Louis’ sister and kids, other family and friends in New Orleans; Track 10: Panassie asks about their plans to travel to New Orleans in the future; Lucille mentions Willis Conover and Jack Bradley; she says he should contact them; Disc 2, Track 1: Lucille tries to telephone Jack Bradley; Track 2: Louis shows Panassie some photographs and ephemera; he mentions Claude Luter; Louis talks about taping his records and his tape index; Track 3: Louis talks about Jack Teagarden and Velma Middleton; Louis talks about his health; Track 4: Panassie asks about the musicians in Louis’ current band; Panassie asks about improvisation; Louis talks about traveling to Europe; Panassie talks about his film project; Track 5: Panassie expresses his fear about his broken English; he asks when Louis goes to bed; Track 6: Panassie asks about what Louis’ band is doing while Louis is recuperating; Lucille talks about salaries; Panassie asks about the circumstances of Louis’ hospitalizations; Lucille talks about kidneys and Louis’ weight loss; Track 7: Panassie talks with Louis and Lucille about Louis’ hospital stays, and asks Louis what was wrong; Lucille talks about Louis’ kidney and heart problems; they discuss Louis’ weight; Louis describes an examination by a proctologist; Louis talks about his health leading up to his time in the hospital; Track 8: Panassie talks about his father’s correspondence with Joe Glaser and how Glaser kept Louis’ health problems from the public; Lucille and Panassie discuss his girlfriend, Sophie, who had arranged to meet the Armstrong's and then cancelled; Track 9: Panassie asks about a photographer, and who photographed the Armstrong’s bathroom; Track 10: Louis plays a tape of one of his concerts; ”A Kiss to Build a Dream On”; Panassie asks about Jack Bradley; Track 11: Marty Napoleon plays ”Girl from Ipanema” (on the tape in the background) and they comment and listen to the tape; Disc 3, Track 1: ”Hello Dolly”, Track 2: ”It’s All Right with Me”, Track 3: ”Old Rockin’ Chair”, Track 4: ”Time After Time”; Track 5: Louis talks about his weight and his diet; he talks about Swiss Kriss; Track 6: Panassie talks about his upcoming trip to New Orleans; Track 7: Lucille calls for a taxi for Panassie and Claudine; they say good bye; Track 8: Louis tells a story about French cologne and soap; the taxi arrives and Panassie and Claudine leave. Track 9: Enrico Tomasso's family band home recorded tape for Louis: get well wishes; Track 10: ”Basin Street Blues”; Track 11: ”I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate”; Track 12: Peter Tomasso speaks to Louis and plays a short, classical piano solo; Track 13: ”Tin Roof Blues”, Track 14: ”When the Saints Go Marching In”, Track 15: ”I Used to Love You”; Track 16: greetings to Louis from the Tomasso kids.
