This box contains 15 periodicals owned by Louis and/or Lucille Armstrong between 1947 and 1971. Issues include: Time - September 1, 1947 - News article with black & white picture about Louis Armstrong's engagement at Billy Berg's in Los Angeles on p. 32. Time - January 26, 1948 - Picture of Louis Armstrong used to illustrate cover story on James Petrillo, president of Musicians, on p. 19. Time - February 21, 1949 - Painting of Louis on the cover with long article chronicling Armstrong's career with many black & white photos. "Louis the First," in "Time," February 21, 1949, p. 52-61. Three copies: one is autographed by Selma Heraldo. One is autographed and inscribed by fellow performers who appeared on the February 21, 1949 taping of the Philco Radio Time show (NBC Studios Hollywood, CA) hosted by Bing Crosby and actually broadcast on March 16, 1949. Autographs include Perry Botkin, Ken Carpenter, Peggy Lee, Jack Teagarden, Joe Venuti, John Scott Trotter, Bing Crosby and "Big Morrow" [sic?].
