Description |
This folder contains letters and other mail sent to Lucille Armstrong from senders with last names ranging from "Baladi" to "Burns." Contents include: Letter from G. Baladi of the Hot Club de France, sending along a news clipping about her husband, Naguib Baladi of Egypt, teaching jazz at the College of Puget Sound; letter from Dee Barcelona, wife of drummer Danny Barcelona; two letters from Mihai Berindei, President of the Jazz-Club Bucarest, thanking Lucille for writing her and for sending some Louis albums, keeping her posted about recent activities with the clubs and sending best wishes to Phoebe Jacobs; invitation from Mike Berkowitz and David Gold to the wedding of their children, Sharon and Alan Jay; letter from Sanford Berman, who hosted Louis and Lucille in Massachusetts for Louis's 60th birthday in 1960, asking for permission to rename a young people's jazz workshop and concert club "Satchmo"; letter from Wilhelm Bettelheim of Austria, asking if Lucille could send an original Louis Armstrong autograph; letter from Lilly Boubio [sic?] of Budapest, sending along clippings about Louis's 1965 concert there (clippings now located at 1987.7.15); letter from German pianist Gunter Boas, written from the hospital in 1975; birthday card from Diane Borelli; letter from Oscar Brand, Curator of the National Academy of Popular Music, wanting to honor Lucille at the Songwriters' Hall of Fame Museum and asking for one of Louis's trumpets to put on display; letter from Mario Bro [sic?] to his friends about returning to the United States; letter from Barbara A. Brunow of MGM records about the royalties to "Brother Bill" recorded for the MGM album of Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby; letter from Eunice Brown, Lucille's Avon representative, about an order; letter from Ottley Brownbill of Elmcor inviting Lucille to a luncheon on October 12, 1977; letter from Dr. Leonard Burns of New Orleans, thanking her for the picture of Louis she gave him and wishing her the best from her New Orleans friends; letter from Ralph Bradley, ex-husband of Louis's secretary Velma Ford. In their divorce, Ford claimed she needed alimony because she couldn't support herself, but Bradley believes she was the ghost writer for Louis's autobiography "Satchmo: My Life in New Orleans" and asks if lucille knows if Ford is still getting paid for this. |
