Description |
Scope: Originally meant to be cataloged in ”Tape Catalog #2, Part 1” (see Manuscripts, 1987.2.23), but Louis passed away before entering it. According to the handwritten tape contents sheet located in the original tape box, this tape contains a television program, "Jackie Gleason's Choice Bands," featuring Paul Whiteman, Duke Ellington, Guy Lombardo, Louis and more. Rest of reel contains sound recordings by Jerry Wallace and a dub of the Brunswick album, "Louis Armstrong's Greatest Hits Recorded Live," which was done in London in 1968 with the All Stars (Tyree Glenn, Joe Muranyi, Marty Napoleon, Buddy Catlett and Danny Barcelona). Front of tape box includes a photo of Beryl Bryden. Back of tape box includes a late photo of Louis in his den in his Corona home. Contents: Side 1 Regarding of Jackie Gleason's "Stage Show," August 21, 1954, hosted by Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey: "History of Jazz" medley of bandleader theme songs, including excerpts from Duke Ellington, Paul Whiteman, "Tommy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, Hal Kemp, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Harry James; "When it's Sleepy Time Down South"; Louis asks for "half-fast" tempo; "South Rampart Street Parade."
