Description |
Non-commercial video featuring a "Today" show segment on Queens College acquiring Louis's belongings. Includes footage of a star-studded concert, including a short interview with Wynton Marsalis. Cameras then capture the state of the Armstrong House in Corona during that period, showing where materials such as the decorated tape boxes and the reel-to-reel tape indexes were kept before being brought over to Queens College. After the piece, Bryant Gumbel interviews tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon about Louis. This is a six-hour video tape made up of material Jack Bradley recorded off of television between October 1987 and January 1988. The rest of the tape is non-Louis but features the following: Nat King Cole's guest appearance on Jack Benny's television show; a Laurel and Hardy short, "Scram"; a TV profile on pianist Dave McKenna on "Positively New England"; two Jonah Jones performances on Regis Philbin's talk show; news reports of Woody Herman's death; a Spike Jones performance of "That Old Black Magic" on the Disney channel; a 1930 film, "uttin on the Ritz"; an Ernie Andrews performance of "Blues for Central Avenue"; a "Strictly New England" story on Armand Zildjian and Zildjian cymblas; two Barbra Streisand interviews on the "Today" show; and a Siskel & Ebert special on Barbra Striesand. |
