Description |
Photocopy of a five-page handwritten letter Louis wrote to Joe Glaser on May 17, 1960. Louis opens by complaining that road manager Pierre "Frenchy" Tallerie hasn't given him his fare back after a gig got cancelled. Louis asks Glaser to not ignore him and wants to "be treated like a man instead just a God damn child all that time." Louis then goes about explaining a predicament he is in after having promised his "house people" Fred and Rula Ware that he would pay for them to take a 30-day vacation with $500 in spending money. Louis asks Glaser to take the money out of some of his upcoming projects. Louis then mentions running into Sid Frey of Audio Fidelity Records at a Juke Box Convention in Chicago. Frey heard Louis warming up on the song "New Orleans" and expressed his desire to record it (indeed, Louis recorded this tune for Audio Fidelity just one week later). Louis then offers a suggestion to do an album of all the songs from the old musical "Shuffle Along." |
