This folder contains letters and materials sent to Jack Bradley from Dan Morgenstern. Contents include: Typewritten letter from 1969 with an attached excerpt from a newspaper that talks about Louis at 69 recovering from his stint in the hospital and ready to tour again. Joe Glaser had just passed away and Morgenstern laments that "I wouldn't expect that Glaser's strangle was more than momentarily broken after all...too bad." The letter itself mentions how Jack should be by Louis's side because "he hasn't got too many people looking out for him" and then moves on to Jack's photography and how Dan believes Jack should put together a book of his photos of Louis. Typewritten letter from April 22, 1985, informing Jack that the has sent along the "famous interview" (Slivovice) with Louis that Dan did for Downbeat in 1965. The tape was recently aired on the radio and Morgenstern discusses some of it in the letter. Handwritten letter from 1997 after death of Jeann Failows. Letter came enclosed with a cassette tape eulogy by Morgenstern. The cassette can be found at 2005.1.2178. Handwritten letter from February 3, 2004, which said he ran into "Jim" who said "you're back on the wagon." Dan decided to write and catch up. Dan sent along some rare Louis broadcasts and asks Bradley to copy early-1940s broadcasts of "As Time Goes By" and "Brother Bill." Undated handwritten note that originally accompanied some clippings from "Billboard." Morgenstern asks for information about drummer James "Coatsville" Harris. |
