One in a series of folders containing either press releases or unpublished versions of articles (most of these articles were eventually published but these versions are usually typed drafts). This folder contains drafts of stories written by Jeann Failows in the 1950s. Contents include: Article about popularity of jazz that makes reference to "High Society" and "Satchmo the Great"; Failows Non-commercial newsletter "The Jazz Session" featuring her report of Sid Catlett's death; draft of a 1958 story for the Bulletin du Hot Club de France about her weekend with Paul Studer and Louis, spending time at Louis's Corona home and attending his performances in Hempstead, Long Island and at the Newport Jazz Festival; typed draft of a story from the spring of 1950 by a 25-year-old Failows on how she first heard Louis and how she now knows him; draft that mentions Louis being honored by the Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Benefit Committee; draft of "Random Notes" for the Bulletin du Hot Club de France from either 1956 or 1958, mentioning Louis's Rheingold beer commercials and an engagement the All Stars were playing in Las Vegas; article titled "'Satchmo' In Hollywood" about Louis making the film "Glory Alley"; preview of Louis's television and movie appearances in 1957 and 1958 ("Satchmo the Great" referred to as "Ambassador Satchmo"); details about one of Louis's sessions for the album "Satchmo: A Musical Autobiography," listing who was in attendence (Bobby Hackett, Joe Thomas, Herb Hall, Slim Thompson) and relating stories about the goings-on in between songs. |
