Box of 15 concert programs owned by Lucille Armstrong. Contents include: Program titled "In Memory of a Jazz Phenomenon," for the Louis Armstrong Memorial Concert at Philharmonic Hall, Lincoln Center, June 4, 1972. Program features ads mostly from Manhattan and Queens businesses but also some from entertainers such as Erroll Garner, Timmie Rogers and B. B. King. Two copies. "Satchmo and Elmcor: The lst Annual Memorial Concert." Official program of memorial concert at Philharmonic Hall on June 4, 1972; has information on Elmcor and Louis. Three copies. 1972 "Newport Jazz Festival New York" program featuring a full-page photo of Louis Armstrong on p. 24. Program for the 1972-1973 season at Philharmonic Hall. King's Tan Mardi Gras Souvenir Program from 1973 featuring Lucille on cover as Queen of the Zulus. "Official Mardi Gras 1973 Special Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club" program featuring drawing of Louis on the cover. Program is "Dedicated To Louis Armstrong" and lists the Parade Theme as "Satchmo's Second Line." Includes photos and stories about Louis's reign as King of the Zulus in 1949. Three copies. 1973 "Newport Jazz Festival New York" program featuring an article and photo of Louis Armstrong in conjunction with the renaming of the Singer Bowl as Louis Armstrong Memorial Stadium. "Third Annual National Finals of Hal Jackson's Miss Black Teenage America Beauty Pageant" program from July 27, 1973. Souvenir journal for event that Lucille judged; has ads plus pictures of judges and contestants. Quinnipiac College Intercollegiate Jazz Festival souvenir program from 1974 of jazz festival honoring Dizzy Gillespie and attended by Lucille Armstrong. Two copies. |
