Box of 14 concert programs for various Louis Armstrong -related events between 1972 and 2009. Contents include: Philharmonic Hall-Lincoln Center program for The First Annual Louis Armstrong Memorial Concert, June 4, 1972, with a one-page listing for the concert in the center. Three copies. Program for The Third Annual Louis Armstrong Memorial Concert, June 22, 1974, at Louis Armstrong Memorial Stadium. Program features an open letter to friends of Louis from Lucille Armstrong as well as many photographs of Louis and of the dedication of Louis Armstrong Memorial Stadium in 1974. Autographed to Jack Bradley from photographer Dave Pochonet. Carnegie Hall program for The New York Jazz Repertory Company's November 15, 1974 Carnegie Hall program, "The Music of Louis Armstrong" (later issued on an Atlantic LP, "Satchmo Remembered"). The New York Jazz Repertory Company's second season program, featuring mentions of "The Music of Louis Armstrong," a photo of Louis and features on George Wein and the many music directors, including Dick Hyman, Budd Johnson, Jimmy Owens, Billy Taylor and Bob Wilber. Cape Cod Jazz Festival program from May 25, 1980, featuring an opening letter from Jack Bradley and a closing Bradley photograph of Louis. Five copies. Program for the presentation of Elton C. Fax's oil painting to the Louis Armstrong Elementary School on May 18, 1984. Program features a reproduction of the painting, a biography of Fax, Fax's remembrances of Louis and a memorial tribute to Lucille Armstrong. Tear-outs for Playbill to "Satchmo: America's Musical Legend." (For complete program, see 2008.3.295) Program, letter and poster for Swedish Evergreen Concert, a tribute to Louis produced by Gosta Hagglof and featuring Doc Cheatham, Bent Persson and Dick Cary. Program for the Charlin Jazz Society's "Wonderful World of Louis Armstrong" concert of October 31, 1992 featuring Jon Hendricks, Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Doc Cheatham, Nicholas Payton and others, while awards went to Benny Carter, Cheatham, Terry, Dizzy Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis. Program for Jazz at Lincoln Center's 2009 exhibit, The Collage Aesthetic of Louis Armstrong: "In the Cause of Happiness." 2008.3.253 is a folder titled "Concert Programs - Photocopies," featuring photocopies of various pages from Armstrong programs of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. |
